Updates:

The 2024-25 season closed with a sparkling performance from the Fitzroy String Quartet. A riveting evening’s music enthusiastically enjoyed by the audience injected additional stimulation by encompassing opinion unsurprisingly somewhat divided on Elizabeth Maconchy’s 1943 String Quartet No.4 and, more surprisingly, divided on the merits of the quartet’s approach to Haydn’s late ‘Emperor’ quartet.  The relaxed but assured tone and superb dynamics of the lower strings were well matched by the scintillating performances from the violins and point perfect ensemble playing.  This was performance of the highest order and sent the audience home very happy.

We now look forward to our 2025-26 season, which commences with the Marmen string quartet on 15 October.
